Structure & Organisation
Fertilizers Europe’s activities are directed by its President and Board, who are elected by its General Assembly of members.
Its day-to-day business is primarily carried out through five committees and various working groups and task forces. The secretariat in Brussels supports the association’s committees and working groups under the guidance of the committee chairmen and vice-chairmen and manages Fertilizer Europe’s activities. It also acts as its main interface with stakeholders.
The role of the Statistics Committee is primarily to develop EU market statistics for benchmark purposes in terms of market share, production, production capacities and costs in the European market.
The committee also provides support to other Fertilizers Europe’s teams in terms of statistics and resources to support their work. The Statistics Committee works closely with the Agriculture Committee to publish on an annual basis the brochure "Forecast of food, farming and fertilizer use" providing actual consumption figures. It also assists the Technical Committee with BAT (Best Available Technology) and ETS issues and provides regular support for the Trade & Economic Committee in trade defence cases.
The main role of Fertilizer’s Europe Agriculture Committee is to increase awareness of the essential role of mineral fertilizers in European agriculture. The committee monitors the development of environmental issues related to agriculture and informs the related policy making processes by providing scientific studies and statistical information. The core mission of the committee is to promote good nutrient stewardship, environmental performance and best agricultural management practices.
The Technical Committee scope of activities is linked to production, transport and storage of fertilizers and related issues on safety, health, environment and security. The committee monitors EU legislation on these topics, providing valuable inputs and studies from the industry. The main projects of the Technical Committee include Product Stewardship, Annual Safety Seminar, REACH for Fertilizers and Fertilizers Carbon Footprint Calculator.
Trade & Economic Committee
Fertilizers Europe's trade and economic activity is dedicated to the promotion and safeguarding of free and fair trade and competition within the European Union and on world markets. The trade and economic committee strives to promote a level playing field with all forms of harmful distortions such as dumping, subsidy and state fixing of prices, in particular of gas prices, removed from all marketplaces.
The role of the communications committee is to promote an effective dialogue between the European fertilizer industry and external stakeholders in order to joint efforts for finding solutions to the many challenges that face society and industry. The Committee engages with different stakeholders including representatives of EU institutions, farmers and their representatives, academia, NGO and media.
