SOIL PROTECTION
Europe’s soils are a precious and limited non-renewable resource. To preserve the soil agricultural production function and maintain its fertility has always been high on EFMA’s agenda. Consequently, EFMA has been very much involved in the Commission’s new Soil Thematic Strategy, as member of the advisory forum that conducted the process during the first phase. Here, EFMA participated in three task forces on diffuse contamination and organic matter. The initial phase, which ended in June this year, aimed at building a knowledgeable base on the selected issues and bringing a text proposal to the Commission. Also the new Member States participated very actively in this process, even before EU accession.
