Fertilizers Europe leads the discussion on the New Fertilizer Regulation
On 28 September, MEP Elisabetta Gardini (IT) and MEP Dariusz Rosati (PL) hosted a breakfast debate on the premises of the European Parliament in coordination with Fertilizers Europe and the Parliament Magazine, to highlight the topics of the European Commission’s proposal on the new Fertilizer Regulation.
The two hosts, along with the featured speakers Jacob Hansen (Director-General of Fertilizers Europe) and Reinhard Büscher (Head of Unit “Chemicals”, DG Grow, European Commission) highlighted some of the main concerns of the New Regulation in presence of key agricultural stakeholders and members of the agricultural and environmental committees in the European Parliament. The foundation message stressed that all stakeholders, including the industry and the relevant political decision-making institutions ought to find a correct balance of interests and collaborate to ensure sustainability of this key agricultural industry and to provide the highest level of quality for fertilizing products available on the European market.
Among the discussants, there was an emphasis on urgency to pursue the development of this regulation in the near future. The high attendance of the event as well as the enthusiasm showed by the delegates demonstrates the importance of the new regulation and developments in agriculture within the European Union.
Fertilizers Europe’s efforts on the New Fertilizer Regulation will be followed-up by the Forum on Fertilizers and Nutrients for Growth on 19 October, featuring a larger panel and in-depth discussions on some of the key concerns of the new Regulation.
