GLOBAL EUROPE
The New EU Trade Policy
With the failure to agree the Doha Development Round, the EU in October 2006 launched a new trade policy. This moved away from the heavy multilateral emphasis put on the Doha Round negotiations to a more multi-dimensional approach involving a higher emphasis on bi-lateral relations. Also included in the Global Europe package was a review of market access improvements; trade defence instruments and special attention to new emerging markets such as China, India and the Mercosur – South American countries.
